Frequently asked questions

How much commitment is required?

Participants must be able to attend all workshops, which take place on Saturdays from 1-4pm for 6 consecutive week. Applicants must also be able to commit to pitching at the final Pitch Night evening

Is there a particular social issue to be addressed?

Nope! Any social enterprise idea is acceptable (and encouraged!) so long as it aims to empower communities either at Monash or beyond, create positive impact, advocate for social change and all the while being financially sustainable

Can I apply alone?

Yes! You can apply as an individual, an individual looking to team up with our applicants, or as part of a team.

How do I know if Incubator is for me?

- You enjoy challenges, problem solving and working on real world issues - You have an inspiring vision to share - You have a business idea but have no idea where to start - You are motivated and passionate about your idea - You are looking to meet other like-minded students - You want to see how your degree can translate into a career and meet those on that trajectory or industry professionals

What does the program cost?

Incubator is fully funded by our partners - it is free for all participants. Our Pitch Night is also a free event, so be sure to have all your friends and family come along to see your business idea in action.

Do I need to be a commerce student to participate?

No, you don’t! We have had participants from a wide range of faculties participate in the past. In fact, we strongly encourage students to bring their diverse skillset to the table in creating their own social enterprise.

Where will the workshops be held?

They will be held right here at Monash University Clayton.

I don't have a concrete start-up idea, can I still join?

Yes you can - that's the beauty of Incubator! We are looking for driven students who are passionate about imparting change. If you are passionate about creating a business, being proactive, and the social impact space, you are more than welcome to submit an application.

What kind of start-ups has Incubator helped create?

We've had a huge range of social enterprises developed through the Incubator program. Incubator has seen ideas from female hygiene subscription boxes, to media archiving platforms, to online teaching tools. We encourage you to be as creative as you want with your own start-up!
